Yes, Jesus Loves Me
Like most moms, I think my kids are the cutest, most talented, greatest children to ever walk the face of the earth. And they really are. I mean, just look at them…!
I love being around my kids, I love looking at them, I love watching them do what they love. I just love these guys. They are a blessing from God, a gift from him.
And when I think about how much I love my kids, I can’t help but think that, even as much I love them, that love can’t even compare to how much their Heavenly Father loves them. And that thought reminds me that God loves ME like that, too.
ME!
Sometimes I think that is the hardest theological concept to grasp, that this holy, eternal, incredible God loves me. I don’t have a problem believing I am a sinner. I am faced with that reality daily. But really accepting – embracing – the truth that God loves me….that is tough. And the Bible doesn’t just say he loves us, like a distant love of an aunt we might see once a year, or the condescending love of an authority figure, but a Father love, a “Daddy” love. God loves being around us, loves looking at us, loves watching us do what we love.
It is this love that caused him to send his beloved son to earth to live among us and die for us. It is this love that makes us want to live our lives in obedience to him. We love God because he first loved us.
I have sung “Jesus Loves Me” my whole life, yet the truth of that song is still remarkable. I am still learning to accept the truth of it, still struggling to remember I don’t have to earn this love. I just need to respond to it. I need to live each day allowing the love of God to surround me, protect me, guide me, teach me.
“Yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
The Bible tells me so.”
Jesus is NOT Your Homeboy
Jesus is GOD. The Great I AM. The Lion of Judah. The Lamb of God. Creator. Healer. Almighty. Messiah.
He is NOT your “homeboy.”
Can we talk to him any time we want about anything we want anywhere we want? Yes! And that is AMAZING. We can know Jesus through the Bible, we can experience Him through the Holy Spirit, we can have an intimate, personal relationship with GOD in the flesh!
But we cannot forget that He is holy. We cannot relegate him to “buddy” status.
What Jesus has done for us is unbelievable – He didn’t just teach us some good things or give us a great example to follow – He SAVED us from eternal separation from God. He GAVE us the opportunity to spend forever in heaven with Him. He HELPS us every day in so many ways, to live the life He has planned for us.
Jesus should be praised, worshipped, adored, revered. We should crave time with him, we should strive to honor him and to glorify him, to make him known.
We don’t need to make him “likeable,” “relatable,” or “cool.” He is God. Our job is to respond to His grace with complete surrender and wholehearted worship.
LUMINARY Is My ____ Book
WOW!! SO many guesses for the Luminary giveaway. Yay! I decided to go ahead and announce the winner this morning rather than tonight because my comment box was so filled up. That sure is a nice problem to have ;).
But you know what’s funny?? NO ONE guessed the actual number! I’m feeling pretty proud of myself right now. So here’s what it is and why it is: So far, the books I have had published are: First Date, Starring Me, Right Where I Belong, and Anomaly. Making Luminary number….
The closest guesses were 3 (Jojo) and 7 (Tonja was first to guess that number. I’m sorry, Carolyn!). You ladies will be getting an email from me shortly with the info.
THANKS for playing. This was so much fun. You guys are the best!

LUMINARY Giveaway!
I’ve gotten lots of notes about how cruel I was to leave Anomaly readers hanging at the end of that book. I feel badly about that – I love my readers! So here’s what I’m going to do: I just got some Advance Reader Copies (ARC’s) of Luminary, and I want to send a couple of those out to those of you who can’t wait until January to know what happens next.
SO…pick a number between 1-100.
I already did. Thomas is holding it for me, behind that sheet of paper.
The two readers who get closest to the number get a signed ARC of Luminary.
Enter your number (just one per person, please) in the “comments” section below. I’ll announce the winner Friday evening. Or, er, Thomas will announce the winner Friday :). Guess away…!
