Dealing With Criticism

I need to take a break from talking about Anomaly and the iPad mini giveaway and just get back to blogging about what’s going on in my head. But the Anomaly release is what’s going on in my head. Actually, that’s not true. People’s reactions to the Anomaly release is what’s on my mind. Having a book release is amazing. Exciting. Unreal. This is my fourth book, but’s it’ still like an out-of-body experience. I am writing books! And people are reading them! Wow. But having a book release is also scary. People are reading my books! And some people don’t like them. At all. Sometimes, the criticisms are because “there’s too much God in them”. I’m okay with those criticisms. I am unashamedly...

The Truth Chronicles

Because I have two daughters and I write for teen girls and read “girly” books, I was a little out of my element when my eight-year-old son asked for something interesting to read. Thankfully, my husband has a friend who writes for boys, and we were given copies of this fabulous series: “The Truth Chronicles.” These books follow brainy teens from Silicon Valley Prep on some amazing adventures. Thomas (my son) devoured the first book, where the teens build a time machine that actually works. He can’t wait to read the next books in the series. They are well-written and well-illustrated (Manga lovers will be in heaven!), and they are Christian. The author, Tim Chaffey, “is a pastor, cancer survivor, author, and apologist with a...

Recommended Reading: There You’ll Find Me

I was able to read a pre-released copy of a great new book this summer, There You’ll Find Me by Jenny B. Jones. Jenny has won several awards for her fun, sassy style and this book is sure to be another award-winner. Set in Ireland, a young girl tries to get away to escape heartache back home. But she runs into a teen celebrity filming his latest vampire flick, and sparks begin flying. Sparks she wasn’t looking for and sparks she tries desperately to avoid. Finley is a hysterical heroine, and Beckett Rush is definitely not the typical teen star. And I loved the setting — made me want to hop on a plane and visit Ireland myself (sadly, with school starting next week, that won’t be happening!). But what I really loved is that Finley’s...
